Who is this community darkroom for?
1) If you want to start learning and practicing film photography as a hobby, there is an introductory workshop for you. This is your chance to take charge of the whole process - from the film exposure to the enlarged picture. There are also clinics to develop specific skills such as large formar portraits, colour developing, etc.
2) If you are a film photography lover who doesn't have a darkroom to develop and enlarge your own pics and are tired of sending your films (and paying each time) to commercial labs... the membership is for you!
What are you going to learn in the introductory workshop?
For beginners in the darkroom, we offer a brief and practical workshop to learn about B&W film photography in an engaging, interactive and casual environment.
This is a "learn by doing" course. You will be given the first 35mm B&W film to take your pics in between classes, then you will learn to develop and enlarge some pictures.
Some of the main topics covered in this class are:

SRL film camera and film exposure (shutter, aperture, film ISO)

Introduction to the equipment: enlargers, film tanks, chemicals preparation (developer, stop, fixer)

Laboratory workflow: dry area and wet area

How to develop 35mm black and white film
-
How to enlarge black and white pictures 35mm.
Once you complete this course you can become a MEMBER and join our darkroom to develop your own works independently.

Would you like to become a member?
1) If you have done the introductory course to B&W darkroom or
2) If you are a photographer and have to enlarge pictures for specific works or art purposes;
YOU CAN JOIN OUR DARKROOM on regular basis as an individual or group (up to 5 people). The darkroom is available during business hours and sometimes on weekends too! You can join in 3 different ways, according to your needs:

If you want to use a darkroom sporadicly, up to once a month, up to 5 hours, AU 50 each month (AU 10/h);

If you want to use the darkroom regularly up to twice a month, up to 10 hours in total, the cost is AU 90 each month (AU 9/h);

If you like to use the darkroom consistently, once a week, up to 20 hours a month, the cost is AU 150/month. (AU 7.50/h).
We provide developer, stop bath and fixer for film and paper. You only must bring your own paper and negatives.
Alternatively you can buy paper per unit at the darkroom as well as black and white film (from bulk roll).
